Learn to Skydive!
Being a certified parachuting school, Skydive Vienna employs the modern AFF method in its free fall courses. AFF stands for Accelerated Free Fall, meaning that from the very first jump of your training you exit from 4.000m (14.000ft) above ground with your own parachute, experiencing roughly one minute of free fall!
You can find all important details about AFF courses on this page: AFF skydiving training. You can sign up for a trial course as well, which covers your first solo skydive and lets you decide later, whether skydiving is the right thing for you.
AFF... free fall and your own canopy, starting from jump #1
Who is eligible for a parachuting course?
Absolutely everybody who can imagine himself jumping out of a completely functional airplane for no other reason than having fun! There are some requirements though:
- You should be at least 15 years old.
- If you are less than 18 years old, we need the consent of your legal guardian.
- There's no upper age limit.
- For a couple of years now there is no medical test required for a skydiving training, but your fitness should be on an average level.
If one of these points does not apply to you or if you are not sure whether skydiving is the right thing for you, you probably want to try a tandem skydive first.
How do I become a student?

Static-line method
Naturally we are certified to train you after the classic static-line method as well. We do however prefer the AFF method and arrange static-line courses on request only.
In this method, you practice body position in 8 to 10 static-line jumps with very little (2-5 seconds) free fall time, as your parachute is opened automatically after exiting the aircraft. After that you have to simulate the perfect manual deployment of your parachute before you are allowed to start the actual free fall training.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How long does it take to become a skydiver?
This depends mostly on you! After 1 1/2 days of ground school we already start your free fall training. After 28 jumps you are qualified to take the exam and receive your license. If the weather gods cooperate, this can be done in less than 2 weeks - on the other hand some lazy fellows have been known to take 6 months. -
All Inclusive Package - is really everything included?
As far as we are concerned: yes! There is however a small fee to be paid when you fetch your license from the Austrian Aeroclub, our national airsport control. If you have or want to do any AFF rejumps, they are charged extra as well. In return, we invite you for your first year of membership in the Aeroclub! -
Skydiving school X charges more/less for the training!
All Austrian schools offer very different packages, that are similar only at first glance. If you got any questions about the packages Skydive Vienna offers, or if you want to know about the differences to other schools' packages, our Head of Instruction is always there for you. -
Why do you employ the AFF method (and not classic static-line)?
Training after the AFF method, you will already experience one minute of free fall in your very first jump. Further, it is already up to you to check altitude and deploy your canopy. We are commited that this prepares you better for your time as a licensed skydiver, that you will gain more self-confidence by faster achievements in free fall, and that this ultimately results in more fun you will have as a skydiver. -
What, if this is not the right thing for me?
If you are not sure, we suggest you try a tandem skydive first. If you want to jump "on your own" nevertheless, you might be interested in taking a trial course and thus doing your very first solo jump. If you want to continue the training after that, the trial course is offset from the full AFF course.
